Every Tuesday at noon, something special happens at The Friends Meeting House. People from all walks of life—different countries, different stories, but sharing similar struggles—come together. They share tea, they share silence, they share words of encouragement. This is the power of peer support.

Why Peer Support Works

Research shows that peer support groups can be as effective as professional therapy for many people. Here's why:

  • Shared experience: There's nothing more validating than hearing someone say, "Me too."
  • Reduced isolation: Mental health struggles convince us we're alone. Groups prove otherwise.
  • Practical wisdom: Peers share what actually worked for them, not just textbook advice.
  • Hope: Seeing others further along in their journey provides tangible hope.
  • Safe practice: Groups provide a safe space to practice new ways of relating and communicating.

Voices from Our Groups

"I came to my first session hiding behind a scarf, too ashamed to make eye contact. Six months later, I led a session on confidence building. That's what peer support did for me."

— Fatima, group member since 2023

"In my culture, we don't talk about feelings. The first time I shared in group, I was shaking. Now I'm a facilitator. This place saved my life."

— Joseph, group facilitator
